What this role Demands: 
The Residential Theater Technical Designer is a production focused role in support of our design team, responsible for the creation of coordinated, accurate, and comprehensive design and construction drawing packages, electronic 3D models, and photo realistic presentation renderings. To be successful in this role demands, amongst other things, that the individual be able to develop design concepts into workable solutions, create the necessary documentation to effectively convey those solutions to others, to continually acquire the skills needed to remain current within the A/V industry and with the various software used to produce their work, and to consistently meet deadlines, and achieve productivity & quality control expectations.

 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Drafting, Modeling and Rendering:
• Contribute to the ongoing creation and management of company CAD & Rendering libraries and
standards. (i.e. Blocks, Materials, Textures, Typical Detail, Templates, Configuration, File Mgt, etc.)
• Evolve and create design concepts into legible and professional construction drawing packages.
• Modify and make revisions to existing work to incorporate feedback and requirements of others.
• Create electronic 3D Models from 2D CAD drawings
• Incorporate Audio/Video Equipment, Furniture & Acoustic Products into designs to optimize performance and comfort within the constraints of the overall design.
• Inhabit a builder's mindset to generate documentation packages that effectively convey the design intent and sound construction methodology, to minimize questions from the field, such that it can be constructed by others remotely, with minimal supplemental direction.
• Generate dimensioned and annotated plans, elevations, sections, details, 3D views, schedules, etc.
• Research, read and interpret product specifications, diagrams, schematics, graphs, charts, installation manuals, and other documentation to be able to correctly incorporate items into the designs.
• Identify construction and equipment detailing challenges on projects, find solutions and effectively document them in the construction drawing sets.
• Participate in meetings with clients, architect's, general contractors, interior designers, A/V Consultants, Electricians, HVAC providers and others when requested.
• Support the Design Team in various design related tasks including: finishes research and selection, product research, etc. 
Other Duties and Expectations: 
• Quality control your own work prior to submitting, to minimize the time required to review it by others, and to minimize corrections, redlines and revisions required.
• Consistently meet deadlines and achieve productivity and billable hours expectations.
• Complete each project's scope within the allotted budget. Identify all scope changes that require
additional time or expenses and immediately notify your supervisor.
• Meet as requested to review the status of your active projects, determine future project assignments, etc.
Update and complete required paperwork, forms, progress updates, reports, time tracking and other requested documentation and data entry in a timely fashion, adherent to company's standards.
• Offer suggestions for increased internal productivity and to improve the quality of our deliverables. Take advantage of individual and group training opportunities to learn new skills, strengthen existing skills and to help train and share your knowledge to help advance the skills of coworkers.
• Other duties as assigned by Vice President, Design Build Operations

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• AutoCAD 2D drafting. (Advanced)
• AutoCAD 3D Solid Modeling. (Intermediate)
• 3dsMax (Intermediate)
• 2+ years of experience generating construction drawing sets in a production environment, preferably in a team lead role.
• Highly detail-oriented individual, able to independently produce thorough and accurate work with minimal supervision or corrections.
• Possess time management skills necessary to consistently meet deadlines and productivity expectations.
• Desire and ability to learn and remain current with the technical aspects required in the position i.e.: Acoustic Design Concepts, Audio Video System Design requirements, AutoCAD Software Evolution, etc. (On the job training is provided in these areas)
• Able to read, interpret and follow documentation including, but not limited to; construction drawings, specifications, installation manuals, procedural documents, schematics, diagrams, charts and graphs.
• Computer Proficiency - Able to create excel spreadsheets for reporting and tracking tools. Proficient with standard business use of software including, email, calendars, word processing, etc.
• Able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing in English.
• Bachelor's Degree Preferred. High School Diploma or Technical College Degree required.
 
 
DESIRED/BONUS QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Sketch Up (Intermediate)
  • Prior experience in any of the following trades: Architecture, Interior Design, Audio/Video Integration, Residential Construction
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Project Management Experience
  • Passion for home theater and Audio Video industry
